Phoebe Black Dies At Her Home
Jonesville - Mrs. William (Phoebe) Black, 77, of 306 Maumee St., died Tuesday in her home.
She was born on June 26, 1897 in Hillsdale County, the daughter of James and Susan (Heller) Alpaugh.
A life resident of the county, she was a member of the New Hope United Brethren Church.
Mrs. Black was preceeded in death by her first husband, Arno Olmstead.
She was married Aug. 5, 1967 to William Black. He survives.
Also surviving is daughter Mrs. Arthur (Edna) Piriczky of Jonesville; sons Leo Olmstead of Hillsdale and Karl Olmstead of Frontier; step-daughters Mrs. Sam Griffiths of Angola, Ind., and Mrs. Cary Underhill of Adrian; stepsons John Black of Rt. 1, Hillsdale, Lester of Hudson, Herbert of Pittsford, Leonard of Frontier, Francis of Convoy, Ohio, and Lowell of Hillsdale; sisters Mrs. Ruby Peterson of Taylor, Mrs. Glen May of Taylor, Mrs. Chester Wallace of Montpelier, Ohio, Mrs. Edith Ingram of California and Mrs. Florence Smith of North Adams; 14 grandchildren; 31 step-grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; and five step great-grandchildren.
One son, two sisters and six brothers preceded her in death.
The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Friday in the New Hope United Brethren Church.
Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday in the Van Horn-Eagle Funeral Home, Hillsdale.
Interment will be in the Baker Cemetery, Amboy Township.
