Musician. A tenor saxophonist, he is best known for his association with such artists as Huey Lewis and the News and Boz Scaggs. Born in Oakland, he spent part of his childhood in Houston before returning to the Bay Area. He burst onto the San Francisco music scene during the late-1960s, gaining prominence with his instrumental and vocal contributions on the group Mother Earth's album "Make a Joyful Noise." During the 1970s, Stallings established himself as a much sought-after session musician. Among the other many artists he recorded with are Jerry Garcia, Mike Bloomfield, Elvin Bishop, Otis Rush and Gladys Knight. During the 1990s, he formed his group Que Calor. He died from cancer.
