Born James Glen Griffith he was the fourth of seven children born to John D. and Sara Elizabeth (Carlton) Griffith. In the early 1880's the family moved to Texas, settling by 1885 near Lockney in Floyd County. In his late teens and early twenties Glen worked as a cowboy on ranches in the North Texas panhandle. He married Willie Green Wardlow at Silverton, Briscoe County on 4 Feb. 1900. They soon went to Floyd County and engaged in farming near to other members of Glen's family. Two sons and seven daughters were born to the marriage. In 1917, with 8 children, they set out from Floyd County, Texas for Arizona in two covered wagons. They worked their way west doing farm and ranch work and reached the Salt River Valley of Arizona in early 1918. In 1920 they commenced the return trip by way of southern New Mexico and finally reached their old home in late 1921. In Arizona they left behind two of their daughters - one to a marriage and one in her grave. Their last child, a daughter, was born on the trip home. In 1929 they returned to Arizona to live and settled in Casa Grande, where Glen worked in farming and well-drilling.
In 1946 Willie suffered a severe stroke which left her unable to talk or walk. She was thereafter confined to a wheelchair. In the late 1940's the couple moved to Soquel, California to be near family. They lived a tranquil retirement in the pleasant country north of Soquel in the 1950's, with several of their children and grandchildren near. Glen died at age 88, having been preceded in death by Willie twelve years earlier.
