Benjamin was the son of Elizabeth Sage and John Balderson of Leicester, England.
He and his wife Mary, were the parents of: George J born 1866, Ohio; John, born 1867, Ohio; Edward, born 1868, Ohio;Mary Ann, born 1869, Michigan; Elizabeth H, born 1867, Michigan; Crist, born 1876, Michigan; Sarah E, born 1879, Michigan and William Hart Balderson, born 1879, Michigan.

Benjamin was a Civil War veteran and a member of the Grand Army of the Republic.43rd Ohio infantry, company F.
Enlisted 19 Nov 1861. Discharged 14 Nov 1864.

Bandfield Funeral Home records indicate age as follows:
74 years, 5 months and 14 days.

Benjamin Balderson Died Wednesday - Was An Exemplary Citizen An Invalid Since the War.

Benjamin Balderson died at his home in the northeast part of the township last Wednesday noon. His family had been expecting his death for several hours, though marveling at his great vitality.
Mr. Balderson had not been in good health since the war, having a frequently recurring complaint which rendered
him unfit for hard work.
He stood well with his neighbors and townsmen and was an excellent citizen.
Besides his wife he is survived by the following children: Fred W., H.K. (Horace), John C. and Wm. H. Balderson, of Portland, Edward Balderson, Grand Ledge. The daughters are Mrs. Frank Barnes and Miss Sarah Balderson, both of Portland. His brother, John, resides in Fenwick and a sister, Mrs. Sarah Perry, lives in Saginaw.
Mr. Balderson was born in Leistershire, England, April 2, 1829 and crossed the ocean in 1847, locating in Loraine county, Ohio.
In Avon, Ohio, he married Mary Ann Crisp.
Serving in the war he returned to Ohio and then came to
Portland.
Funeral services were held in the M.E. church Friday afternoon, Rev. John H. Stewart, of the Baptist church, officiating.
Mrs. Balderson is a member of the Baptist church, but on account of the repairs now being made there, the Methodist church was used.
Burial in Portland cemetery.
