Christel, Peter A. (Feb. 26, 1882-Nov. 29, 1965 –husband of Rose Gutman [1886-1946] –married June 2, 1908 at St. Gregory Catholic Church in St. Nazianz, Town of Eaton –son of Wendel Christel and Christina Kaiser –born Town of Eaton –farmer in Town of Eaton –on June 1, 1908 purchased his in-law’s 70 acre farm at 6202 County A in Section 13, Town of Eaton –on May 8, 1911 purchased the western 30 acres of the northern half of the SW1/4 of Section 18, Town of Liberty from the Nelson farm –this purchase gave Peter a farm of 100 acres –after Peter’s death in 1965, this farm was inherited by his son Herman Christel –from May 12, 1931 until his death in 1965 owned the lot with house at 103 Birch Court in St. Nazianz, which was used as a rental property –after Peter’s death, this rental house was inherited by his son Herman – “He farmed, operated a steam threshing rig in the St. Nazianz-Quarry area, from 1915-1928 and was the last surviving member of the Valders’ Old Time Fiddlers and the revived organization of 1930. Peter A. Christel, 83, of Rt. 1, Valders, died Monday at
home after a short illness.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Christianson Funeral Home and at 10:15 a.m. at St. Gregory Catholic Church, St. Nazianz. The Rev. Gregory Putzer, S.D.S., will officiate and burial will be in the church cemetery.
Mr. Christel was born Feb. 26, 1882, in the Town of Eaton,
son of the late Wendel and Christina Kaiser Christel. He
attended public and parochial schools, St. Francis Seminary, Nenno, Wis., and Sheboygan Business College. He married Rosa Gutman June 2, 1908, at St. Gregory Church. He farmed, operated a steam threshing rig in the St. Nazianz-Quarry area from 1915-28 and was the last surviving member of the Valders' Old-Time Fiddlers and the revised organization of 1930. He also played violin in the Ray Henning orchestra of Kiel. His wife died in 1946.
Surviving are a son, Herman, on the home farm, four brothers, Hugo, of New Holstein and Max, Rudy and Joseph J., of St. Nazianz, and a sister, Mrs. William Rappel, of St. Nazianz.
A sister preceded him in death.
Friends may call at the funeral home after 3 p.m. Wednesday
where at 8 p.m. the Rosary will be recited.
