Family history published in "100th Anniversary Rock Spring Methodist Church, Kingsport, TN (Kingsport, TN 1961). On page 29... "Jackson Blakley was killed during the Civil War by bushwhackers and his burial place is unknown. Pension Records show that Jackson Blakley was a private in Company G, 8th Tennessee Cavalry, USA. He enrolled on September 12, 1863 at Sullivan County, Tennessee to serve 3 years. He is listed as "Private, not mustered, missing after action near Zollicoffer (Union Depot), Tenn 19 Oct 1863" on the Nov. and Dec. 1863 and Jan. and February. 1864 rolls. Mary A. Blakley, in her application for Army Pension dated June 14, 1870 states that Jackson died "on or about 15th day of April A.D. 1864 disease incurred in the service aforesaid and whilst in the line of his duty being a prisoner and it is believed was murdered by rebels while a prisoner." She was unable to furnish eye witness to the death and did not identify the source of her information. There is no records to prove the date, place and cause of Jackson Blakley's death. Mary, in her applications for pension state that he: (1) died of defamatory rheumatism while a prisoner on or about April 15, 1864, (2) from disease incurred while a prisoner and (3) murdered by rebels while a prisoner.
