He had been a man of remarkable health and vitality up to the time he was taken ill last week. For many years he was employed by the Central Clothing Co. and after that firm went out of business, he was employed by other clothing merchants here up until his last illness. He also had a number of private customers.
He had operated a shop at his home, 418 North Sixth Street, up until three years ago when he went to live with a daughter, Mrs. Wilfred Gagnon, 527 Jackson street, where he continued his work.
The deceased was born at Uitwierda, The Netherlands, on August 18, 1861. He was married to Grietja Vandenberg on April 25, 1889 in The Netherlands. When he was 28 years old, he and his wife came to thi area to live in Muskegon for two years and then they moved to this city (Grand Haven) where the deceased has lived since. His wife died Sept. 25, 1942. He was a member of the First Christian Reformed church.
Surviving are two daughters, Mrs, Gagnon of this city; Mrs. Harm Brinks, South Haven; three sons, Corneliius, Jr., and Hio of this city and John of Clifton, NJ., 30 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren.
The body was moved to the Kinkema Funeral home where services will be held on Tuesday at 2:30 pm. Dr. John Masselink, pastor of the First Christian Reformed church, will conduct the services and burial will be in Lake Forest cemetery. (obit from the Grand Haven Tribune)
