Frances Aurelia Cox Marshall Shannon, 73, of Moberly, Mo. died on April 21, 2009.
Fran Shannon, known early in life as Pinki, was born on July 18, 1935. Her Mother was Frances Jennings Cox Marshall, daughter of John B. Jennings and Frances Wight Jennings of Moberly, Mo. Her father was Donald Clinton Cox, of Carthage, Missouri. Fran's parents met at the University of Missouri, while her mother was in journalism school and her father was in law school. While Fran was very young, her parents divorced and her mother subsequently married Charles Wiley Marshall, the son of Wiley D. Marshall and Dora Lee Bradley Marshall of Moberly, Mo. Fran was adopted by Charles.
Fran grew up on Locust Grove Farm near Old Milton, Mo. until the family moved into Moberly when Fran was in High School. On the farm, Fran enjoyed helping out with the chores and riding her horse, Beauty. Fran was extensively involved with the Camp Fire Girls, and served as a counselor at the Camp Fire cabin in Rothwell Park. She loved music and the great outdoors. Fran was a singer, and once cut a record in Kansas City. She spent a great part of her life in the mountain west, where she loved to be outside, walking in the woods, listening to the wind in the aspens and the rush of waterfalls.

Married Vernon Eugene Shannon on July 1, 1989, in Delta Colorado.

Fran lived the last years of her life in Moberly, where she took great pride in her home. Cooking was her passion. It was a special treat to eat at "Pinki's Pantry". Fran possessed tremendous curiosity and was always excited to learn something new about the world. Fran and Vernon shared many a trek exploring the back roads of Missouri.
Doctors told Fran that she had cancer, and had a short time to live. She took that as a challenge, and lived another four years. Even as her circle of life shrank, and as her weight dropped below a hundred pounds, she kept her positive outlook. She was a fighter, and remained engaged with grace and dignity to the end. She was not remorseful or aggrieved. She said the Lord gave her four extra years and she was grateful.
Fran was survived by her husband, Vernon, and two brothers.
Memorial services were held Saturday, April 25, 1:30 pm at Cater Funeral Home, followed by interment in the Marshall plot in Oakland Cemetery, She will be so missed by her husband and all her family and her dear friends.
