Gladys Tucker Hester, 88, died Sunday, May 11, 2008, at her home after a long illness. She was born August 22, 1919, in Detroit, Alabama, to George Tucker and Lillie Harbor Rye. She was a lifelong resident of Nettleton, a retired factory worker and a Baptist. She enjoyed cooking and spending time with her family and friends.

Services were held at the Chapel of Tisdale-Lann Memorial Funeral Home in Nettleton with Bro. Tommy Whaley and Bro. Mike Welch officiating. Burial was in the Nettleton Cemetery.

Survivors include two sons, Rex Hester (Diane) and Joe Hester (Marolyn), both of Nettleton; one sister, Faye McMurry of Nettleton; two stepsisters, Zelma Whitehead of Nettleton and Connie Grubbs of Tupelo; an aunt, Midrose Kennedy of Tupelo; four grandchildren, Terry Joe Hester (Betty Jo), Lisa Garrett (Paul) and Kim Inmon (Darrell), all of Nettleton, and Jerry Wayne Hester (Donna) of Pontotoc; seven great-grandchildren, nine great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter T. "Mutt" Hester; her parents; one son, Carl Devan Hester; and three stepbrothers.

Pallbearers were Darrell Inmon, Levi Inmon, Chris Hester, Ryan Hester and Terry Devan Hester.
