KEIZER- Mary was born in Prelate, Saskatchewan, Canada, September 11, 1919. She was the third of 12 children born to Adam and Lena Ziebert. Her family moved to Mt. Angel, Oregon in 1921. In 1939, Mary became the wife of LESLIE LEE CHASTAIN. They had five girls and three boys. They were blessed to have 52 years together.

Their oldest daughter, Gloria, passed away in 2007. Mary's second marriage to GLEN FOSTER in 2001, lasted five years until his passing in 2006.

Mary was primarily a homemaker, but also worked as a cook in a restaurant, a school bus driver, and a caregiver to the elderly. Mary was member of St. Edward's Catholic Church where she served the ministry of Christian Education and was a member of the Happy Hearts. She belonged to the Royal Good Neighbors and served as a volunteer and caring friend. Mary was also a long time volunteer at the Society of the St. Vicent de Paul. Mary loved socializing and was passionate about cooking, gardening, bird watching, dancing, and playing pinochle.

Family requests donations go to Society of St. Vincent de Paul, P.O. Box 7864, Salem, Ore. 97303 in memory of her.

She is survived by brothers, Roy and Adam Ziebart; sisters, Ann Anderson and Vera Kuper; sons and daughter-in-law, Raymond and Kathy Chastain, Dennis and Margaret Chastain, Richard and Cathy Chastain; daughters and sons-in-law, Cheryl and Bob Paswalk, Lena and Gene Calkins, Lisa and Kent Knospe and Antoinette and David Box; 21 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and 4 great-great-grandchildren.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 9:30 a.m. Weds., April 29, 2009 at St. Edwards Catholic Church, 5303 River Road N., Keizer, Oregon 97303. Interment will follow Mass at Claggett Cemetery. Arrangements by Keizer Funeral Chapel.
