Fred A. Bender, 68, of 915 Second St., Kiel, a retired Town of Meeme (Manitowoc County) farmer, died unexpectedly at his home Friday night. Mr. Bender, who had been in apparent good health previously was stricken with a heart attack at 10:45 after he had retired.
A native of the Town of Herman, he was born Jan. 30, 1891, a son of the late Frederick and Odelia Koellmer Bender.
The family moved across the county line into Meeme where he was educated in Taylor School, later taking the agricultural short course at the University of Wisconsin.
He married Martha Ochs of Mosel, May 10, 1919, following which the couple farmed in Meeme until retiring and moving to Kiel the past January.
Mr. Bender was a past member of the Taylor School board and a past elder of St. Paul's Evangelical and Reformed Church in Mosel. Since moving to Kiel he belonged to the Brotherhood of St. Peter's Evangelical and Reformed Church there and the Kiel Kiwanis Club.
Surviving are his wife; five daughters, Mrs. Orin (Dorothy) Ulness, Valders, Mrs. Armond (Ione) Kueter, Manitowoc, Mrs. James (Arlene) Johannes, Minneapolis, Mrs. Richard (Luane) Quast, Guatemala, Central America, and Miss Janice Bender, Racine, and 11 grandchildren. He also leaves three brothers, Oscar and Adelbert, Sheboygan, and Louis, R. 1, Sheboygan, and two sisters, Mrs. Selma Goetschel, Sheboygan, and Mrs. Edward Schneider, R. 1, Cleveland.
