Born abt. 1815 - Died between 1888-1900 -
James McCorkle was of the Zion community of Lancaster County, S.C.
He is my 2nd great-grandfather. I found a rock in the cemetery leaning against a bush and had inscribed his name along with his daughter's initials who apparently was buried beside him. Unable to read dates, he was born bet. 1812-1816 and died bet. 1888-1900. His daughter, Laura Caroline McCorkle is inscribed on the rock as L.C. who is my g-grandmother. She was born 8/22/1849 and died 12/18/1885. James' wife, Margaret was born between 1816-1818 and died between 1888-1900. James & Margaret had 13 children. I am sure all three are buried at this cemetery and as I said, I found the tombstone (rock) with James and daughter, Laura's name inscribed.
Someone took the M in McCorkle in the 1850 census and thought it to be his middle initial. Not true.....
