Alberta Jones Gray of Ivy, VA, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, March 17, 2009 at the University of Virginia Medical Center.
She was born in Albemarle County, VA. on April 1, 1920 to the late Major Jones and Maria Keys Jones.
Alberta graduated from Albemarle Training School and went to work in Washington, D.C. for many years. She returned to Ivy, VA to care for her mother and later accepted a position with ConAgra where she worked until her retirement. Alberta accepted Jesus Christ at an early age and was a life long member of Mt. Calvary Baptist Church in Ivy, VA. where she served compassionately and faithfully on the hospitality committee, missionary society, ushered and sung on the choir. She was an avid traveler. She enjoyed life and lived it with style and gusto.
She was preceded in death by her siblings, Mrs. Florence White, Miss Doris Jones, Mrs. Elaine Riley, Mr. Raymond Jones and the Reverend Edward Jones.
She leaves to cherish her memory, a loving family and friends. Her survivors include one sister, Mrs. Gertrude Ragland of Crozet, VA; a sister-in-law, Mrs. Constance Jones of Washington, D.C.; three nieces, Mrs. Gwendolyn Skinner of Washington, D. C., Mrs. Barbara Hanson (also God daughter) of Accokeek, MD., Jennifer Penn of Hyattsville, MD; two nephews, William Jones of Hyattsville, MD., and Richard Williamson and wife, Lorna of Ft. Washington, MD; and a host of grand nieces and grand nephews, especially Chawn Tate and wife, Monique of Ft. Washington, MD; devoted friends, Mrs. Tori Thomas of McLean, VA and the Winkler family.
A Funeral service was held Monday, March 23, 2009 at Mt. Zion First African Baptist Church, with the Reverend Tracie Daniels officiating.
Interment at Oakwood Cemetery.
