Services for Kathryn Curry Spencer, 69, of Elkhart will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, at the First Baptist Church of Elkhart with the Rev. Darwood Gallaway officiating. Burial will be in Starr Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Bailey and Foster Funeral Home. Mrs. Spencer died Friday, Mar. 20, 2009 at her residence. She was born Oct. 7, 1939 in Anderson County to Isaac Curry and Agnes Beeson Curry. She graduated from business school in 1958, worked as a secretary for Anderson Refinery at Tucker, then the Houston Chamber of Commerce and Schlumberger in Huntsville. For the past 36 years she was secretary for her husband. Mrs. Spencer was an active member of the First United Methodist Church of Elkhart. She loved her family and had many friends. Mrs. Spencer was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Marcelene Walding. She is survived by her husband of 47 years Richard Spencer of Elkhart; two daughters, Lisa Gaines of Elkhart, and Stephanie Spencer Woods and husband Raymond of Shungnak, Alaska; and three grandchildren, Lauren Gaines, Matthew Gaines, and Spencer Woods. Pallbearers will be Jim Bob Parker, O.L. Grimsley, Jerry Rutledge, Truman Starr, Tyler Farrow and Nat Coleman. Condolence calls will be received today from 6 to 8 p.m. at Bailey and Foster Funeral Home.
