John Bryant, first Springfield, Massachusetts Armory superintendent in 1794.
He had lost his right arm at the Battle of Stony Point in the Revolution, settled in at Springfield, Massachusetts where he was a storekeeper at the Armory, and in 1794 succeeded his daughter ( Hannah Mason Bryant Hatch ) father- in-law (Hannah's maternal grandfather Colonel David Mason), who had been a Boston artillery officer in the Revolution and was assigned by George Washington to establish an armory. David Mason had located the Springfield site, hired skilled workers and oversaw construction of the first laboratory facilities which were the precursor to the Armory. John Bryant did manage the armory, well, through difficult years of many budget cuts, lack of funds, and manpower reductions in the aftermath of the US revolutionary war.
