Smithville resident Cephas Jones, 91, died Dec. 4 at NHC Health Care after an extended illness.

A retired custodian for DeKalb General Hospital and a member of New Union, The Baptist Church, he was the son of the late William Daniel and Louisa Walker Jones; and was preceded in death by stepmother, Margaret France Jones; sisters, Gillie Allen, Annie Mannon, Mary Jones, Florence Humphrey, Priscilla Warren, Pelina Marsh, Melvina Turner and America Turner; brothers, Alex, Walter, Aquilla, Tommie, Willie, and Burgess Jones; and four grandchildren.

He is survived by daughter, Billie Grace Estes of Smithville; sons, Joe, Gary and Cantrell Jones of Smithville and Troy A. Jones of McMinnville; brother, Thurman Jack Jones of McMinnville; sisters, Louisa Jennings and Elsie Newby of McMinnville, Sue Carter of Winchester and Judy Berryhill of Nashville; 21 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

Services will be held at noon today at DeKalb Funeral Home Chapel with Bransford England and Eddie Cantrell officiating. Burial will follow at New Union Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. until noon at DeKalb Funeral Home.
