RAY POULSON JR. CROWN POINT, IN
Ray Poulson Jr., 85, of Crown Point, IN, passed peacefully with loving family by his side on Thursday, May 7, 2009, while at the William J. Riley Hospice House of Munster.
Born September 14, 1923, in Converse, IN, he was the son of the late Ray Sr. and Melissa (nee Richardson) Poulson. He and his love, Margaret Miller, were wed 61 years. Ray proudly served his country in the Army during WWII, participating in the Luzon and New Guinea campaigns. He fought bravely and was awarded the Asiatic Pacific Ribbon with two Bronze Stars, the Philippine Liberation Ribbon with one Bronze Star, as well as the WWII Victory and Good Conduct Medals. Upon returning home, Ray worked as a foreman for Laborers International Union of North America Local #41 Hammond for 40 years. Upon his retirement, he worked for Graycor in Hazel Crest, IL, for another 18 years. Ray was an avid gardener, woodworker and loved his opportunities to travel. Most of all, Ray was a family oriented man all of his days. His presence will be deeply missed and his memory cherished by all who knew and loved him. Surviving to mourn his passing is his beloved wife of 61 years, Margaret; devoted children: Patricia (Van) Vater, Jan (Nick) Pappas and Glen (Donna) Poulson; one brother, Jerry Poulson; one sister, Sue (John) Chatman; six grandchildren: Eric (Annie) Vater, Sarah Vater, John Vater, Thomas, Stacy and Nathan Pappas; two great-grandchildren: Evan and Caiden Vater. Waiting to greet him in Heaven are his parents and eight siblings. The family invites relatives and friends to visit Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 8178 S. Cline Ave. (1/2 mile S. of US 30), Schererville, IN, on Sunday, May 10, 2009 from 2:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. A funeral service to celebrate his life will take place in the funeral home on Monday, May 11, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. At rest with military honors, Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens, Schererville. Memorial gifts in his name may be made to Hospice of the Calumet Area, 600 Superior Ave., Munster, IN 46321. Information call 219-365-9554.
