Cherry was born in Leland, Miss., on March 26, 1934, and married James Edward Lewis, of Philadelphia, Miss., on June 14, 1957. She is survived by her husband, James; her children, Michael, Errol, Zora, Lucretia and Boris; and her five grandchildren, Desiree, Emmanuel, Taliyah, Jade and Malachi.
Cherry was predeceased by her parents, Grady and Norvelll Coats; her two brothers, Herman and Tom; and two sisters, Sadie and Willodyne. She is also survived by her four brothers, Jesse, Ben, Melvin and Clinton; and two sisters, Fannie and Kathryn.
The family sends heartfelt thanks to Brenda Carter, employed by Home Instead Senior Care, for going above and beyond in the care of our loved one. A special thanks also to ICU nurses, Lynn and Kevin; floor nurse, Brenda; and Dr. Derby at Twin Cities Hospital for their kindness and care of our loved one prior to her death.
The family welcomes all to a time of visitation from 10 to 11 a.m. May 11 at Beulah First Baptist Church, 109 N.E. McGriff St., Fort Walton Beach, Fla. The service will follow immediately with the Rev. S.L. Thigpen officiating. Cherry will be laid to rest at 2 p.m. at Barrancas National Cemetery in Pensacola, Fla.
