Angie Britton, 85, Arkansas City, died Friday, June 10, 2005, at her home in Arkansas City. Private family interment services will be held in Hope Cemetery. Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 14, 2005, at the First Presbyterian Church in Arkansas City. Friends may call at the funeral home until 8 p.m. today. The family will receive friends from 7-8 p.m.

Born Sept. 8, 1919, in Haviland, Kan., she was the daughter of Earl Ray and Vera Anna Smith Bennett. The family moved to the West Bolton Township southwest of Arkansas Cit, in the fall of 1921. Angie attended the Bland Grade School and graduated from Arkansas City High School with the class of 1936. She graduated from Ark City Junior College in 1938 and then went to Venus School of Cosmetology in Wichita, and later worked as a beautician in Arkansas City. On March 17, 1940, Angie married Guy 0. Britton in Arkansas City. They moved to Lamont, Okla., in May 1944, where they farmed until the summer of 1952. They moved to South Haven and a short time later to the Geuda Springs area, where they lived until 1962, when they moved to Arkansas City. While living in the Geuda Springs community, Angie was an active leader in the Walton Willing Workers 4-H Club. She worked as a sales associate for many years at the J.C. Penney's Store in Arkansas City until retiring in 1977. She was a life long member of the First Presbyterian Church, and was active in the Presbyterian Women's Association, serving all offices and the Bahruth Circle for years. She was awarded a lifetime membership in the Presbyterian Women's Association in 1985. She had also served on the board of elders and deacons for several years.

Survivors include her children, Kenton 0. Britton of the home in Arkansas City, Carolyn Adams, Highlands Ranch, Colo., Janice Good and her husband, John, Newton, Barbara Walker and her husband, Charles, Tulsa; four grandchildren, Blakely Bunning, Bradley Good, Michael Walker and Jason Walker; and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 60 years, Guy, on Jan. 22, 2001; her sister and brother-in-law Mildred and Orville Hylton.

Memorials have been established with the Bland School Fund of the Cherokee Strip Museum in Arkansas City, and Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice. Contributions may be made through the funeral home. Arrangements are under the direction of the Hawks Funeral Home, Arkansas City.
