Amelia was born in central New York (in or around Saratoga County, we think) circa 1797. She married Elisha Watson abt 1815. Amelia had several children before Elisha died in 1841, including Samuel, Lewis, Betsey, Caroline, John E., Mary Ann, James, Sarah, and Elisha Jr.

After Elisha died in 1841, Amelia was a co-executor of his will. It took until well into 1847 to sell his property, including the farm, to pay his debts which were many.

Sometime between 1847 and 1850, Amelia married Chauncey W. Nichols, a local harness maker. They lived in Wayne and neighboring Cayuga counties in central upstate New York along Lake Ontario.

Amelia's youngest son, Elisha Watson (junior), served in the Civil War. When he came home from the war, it looks like most of the Watson family, along with Amelia and Chauncey, packed up and headed west. Whether they all moved at the same time is not (yet) known, but it is clear that many of Elisha's children and their families ended up in central Michigan, living and moving around between Ingham, Eaton, Clinton, Ionia, Montcalm, Mecosta, & other contiguous counties.

Amelia and Chauncey settled in Lansing. It looks like she moved to Mecosta County to live with her daughter, Mary Ann (Mrs. Joseph) Kimmel, after Chauncey died in 1889.
