Minnie Milby was an early Christmas present for her parents, William Benjamin and Laura Sheppard. Minnie was born at the Milby Homestead just outside of Edna. Her mother Laura passed away when Minnie was only two years of age. Minnie married Oscar Herbert "Doc" Phillips on October 17, 1922 and they had two children, Marguerite Dorcas Phillips Curlee and Herbert Oscar Phillips. Minnie passed away at the family home. Minnie and her children were seated around the stove, when she suffered a stroke. Her children were only 12 & 10 years of age. It was said that Minnie numbered her friends by her acquaintances. In the little family circle she was the object of true devotion. Her life was centered around the home. The rearing of her two children was a responsibility and privilege she enjoyed with her last moments on earth being spent assisting her children in their school work. It touched me when I read in her obit "She will be greatly missed by relatives, neighbors and friends everywhere, but that vacant chair in the little family circle has caused almost overwhelming sorrow and grief". I wish I could have known you Grandma.
