Sherman Pethley was born in Marion, Indiana on March 8, 1892. He stated he was an orphan. He stood five feet ten inches tall and had a ruddy complexion.

4/16/1911 Columbus, OH-4/17/1914 Ft. McDowell, CA - Bat. F, 2nd F.A.;
3/18/1915 Aberdeen, WA-9/28/1915 Aberdeen, WA, Washington National Guard;
6/1/1916 McDowell, CA-6/4/1920 San Francisco, CA - Co. A, 21st Infantry. A government pension was awarded on Certificate C379,691.

Sherman Pethley of Miami County, Indiana married Juanita Belle Robinson of Clarke County, Washington on June 21, 1914 at Vancouver, Washington. He married Faye M. on December 9, 1927. She resided in North Long Beach, California in 1957. The couple resided in Seattle from 1946 to 1956. He resided in the Veterans Adm. Center on Wilshire and Sawtelle Blvd., Los Angeles from May 1956 to March 1957. From 1957 to 1961, he resided at the Washington Veterans' Home in Retsil, Washington.

Mr. Pethly died at the Home on August 19, 1967. Graveside services were held August 23. Survivors included his three sons, Donald of Seattle, Lowell of Seattle and S. W. of San Diego.
