John Hemmert, 90, a resident of Elberta, died Thursday, Oct. 8, 2009.
He was a decorated veteran of the U.S. Army. He received the Purple Heart, European African Middle Eastern Campaign Ribbon, Three Battle Stars, American Defense Service Ribbon, and Good Conduct Medal. He was a lifetime member of the Elberta VFW Post 5658. He was an avid fisherman.
He was preceeded in death by his wife, Beatrice Hemmert.
Survivors include two sons, Sidney Hemmert and Randy Hemmert, both of Elberta; grandchildren, Chad Hemmert and Ila Hemmert; and sister, Helen Wilhelm of Mobile.
Visitation begins at 1 p.m. with funeral services at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 10 from the chapel of of Wolfe-Bayview Funeral Home in Foley. Interment will follow at Elberta Public Cemetery.
