Lyman Dieter enlisted 14 Oct 1863 in Burke, Dane Co., Wisc. as a private, Co. A, 35 Wisc. Vol. Inf. age 16; It is not clear why he enlisted in Wisc. since his parents lived in Minnesota and his older brother Martin Van Buren Dieter enlisted in Minnesota. Martin was also wounded in the Civil War.

Lyman died of typhus complicated by pneumonia at Regimental Hospital, Brownsville, Arkansas at the age of 17 years, Civil War Soldier, unmarried. Lyman Dieter was the 4th child of Peter and Lucinda Eggleston Dieter from Marion, Olmsted Co., Minnesota. After Lyman's death, his parents named their 14th and last child born in 1865, Lyman after his brother older brother he never knew. Lucinda, Lyman's mother filed an application #497785, Cert. #361578, N.D.-- S.Jones.
