Born in Iowa.
Died in Rulo, Richardson City, Nebraska.
She was the daughter of John & Maggie Fleury.

She had 3 siblings: Charles, John, & George Fleury.

She married Lewis Phillips on September 27, 1858 om Hamburg, Fremont City, Iowa.

They had 8 children:

* John L. Phillips.
* Samuel P. Phillips.
* Sarah "Sadie" Louise Phillips. She married William H. Stoll.
* Sophia Emma Phillips. She married John Rhinehart.
* Mary Ann Phillips.
* Moses S. Phillips.
* Jessie M. Phillips.
* Louis W. Phillips.

Louisa, the daughter of a French-Canadian employee of the American Fur Company and a full-blood Sioux Indian(Lower Yanktonai or Sisseton). Louisa and her brother John are recorded as Yankton on the 1856-57 Nemaha Half-Breed Tract listing. This was a "reservation" that gave allotments of land to half-breeds in Richardson and Nemaha counties of Nebraska and into part of Iowa. The tract was also called the Nishnabotna.

Sometime after the 1854 Iowa Census, Louisa's mother left(possibly taking Charles and George). In the 1860 Census, John B. Fleury lives alone, and his son John Jr., is living with Lewis and Louisa in Rulo, Nebraska. Louisa married Lewis Phillips in 1858. Louisa is 15 years of age and Lewis is 30 years old when they marry.

Both Louisa's father and husband at one time worked for the American Fur Company. Louisa's husband may have tried farming, but that did not seem to last. He would purchase and sell tracts of land, start up businesses of mercantile, lumber supply, and farm implements (Phillips, Schulyer & Co.; Randolph & Phillips; Hoyt & Phillips). In the end he had a business "freighting supplies across the plains" to be delivered to miners and residents in Colorado.

Louisa was a plaintiff in a civil court case of a land dispute which began in 1874.

Lewis and Louisa had eight children, but only two lived to advanced ages --
Sarah and Sophia. Sophia married John Rinehart of German heritage in Wymore, NE in 1891. His occupation was railroad engineer. In 1900 Census, they are living in Wymore, Nebraska, in 1912-1917, they are in North Dakota and she is registered with the Standing Rock Reservation and being counted in US Indian Census from that Agency. In the 1920 US Federal Census, they are living in Township 130, Sioux County, ND. By 1925, there are no records for them in that state's census. They had no offspring, but Carrie Stoll and her offspring would live with them. (US Census- 1900, 1920)

In 1878, Louisa dies at the age of 35. She is buried in the Rulo town cemetery beside many of her children.

In the 1880 US Federal Census, her living children, Sarah, Sophia, and Lewis W. are wards of Mary Winfield in Rulo. Lewis W's age is 2, which leads to suspect that Louisa's death in 1878 was related to the birth of Lewis, though there is no death certificate to confirm my suspicions. Lewis Phillips (Sr) is not listed in Rulo, he is in Gunnison, Colorado.
