Grandma Hessman passed peacefully away at the home of her daughter, Mrs. William Powell, Sunday, May 17, 1903, at a ripe old age. She was born July 4, 1809, dying May 17, 1903, making her age 93 years, 10 months and 13 days. She leaves to mourn her demise one son and two daughters - Louis Hessman, and one daughter, Mrs. W. M. Powell, of this place, and a daughter, Mrs. Maggie Wheeler, of Tecumseh, Oklahoma. Her husband and one son have gone before. Grandma, as she was called by all, gave her heart to God when she was but 12 years of age. Over eighty years a faithful and consistent christian. Her Bible she loved with her whole being, always ready and willing to testify to His goodness and mercy to the children of men. Rev. E. L. Sheppard, of Illinois City, her pastor, conducted the funeral services. A large concourse of relatives and friends attended the funeral. The services were held at the Buffalo Prairie church and she was laid away by the side of her husband in the Buffalo Prairie cemetery.
