Henrietta Johnson, 69, of Mishawaka, Indiana, died at 2:10 a.m. Sunday in Memorial Hospital. She was the head cook at Portage Manor for 8 years, leaving in 1972.
She was born February 10, 1916, in Louisville, Ky, and lived in the South Bend area for 30 years, after coming from Kentucky. As Henrietta Rogers, she married Melvin H.E. Johnson, November 18, 1950, in Jeffersonville, Indiana.
She is survived by her husband, Melvin H.E. Johnson, two sons, William D.(Buddy) Milan Jr of New Albany, Melvin E. Johnson of Mishawaka, and one daughter Brenda K. Rogers of Hymera, Indiana, two sisters, Laverne (Bell) McDonald and Lonetta Steger both of New Albany and a brother, James E. Simon Sr of Tell City, Indiana, 10 grandchildren, and 8 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry J. Simon and Georgia Mae Dowdle, a daughter, Doris Jean Turner, a sister, Susie M. Williams, and a brother John W. Simon Sr.
Services will be at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday at the Bubb Funeral Home in Mishawaka. Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. today.
