He played at the center position for fifteen seasons (1984 to 1999) in the National Hockey League with the Philadelphia Flyers, St. Louis Blues, Washington Capitals, Toronto Maple Leafs, Dallas Stars, New Jersey Devils and Vancouver Canucks. He was a member of two Flyers' teams that reached the Stanley Cup Finals in 1985 and 1987. He was chosen by the Flyers as the 41st overall selection during the 1983 Entry Draft. In 873 career regular season games, he scored 219 goals with 389 assists. During his post season career, he appeared in 131 games, scoring 25 goals with 39 assists. Following his playing career, Zezel served as a minor league coach and operated his own hockey and sports camp. He died from a blood disorder.
