"Tom Bates, 81, of 206 Jessie St., Ocean Springs, died Tuesday at Ocean Springs Hospital. Born in Childersburg, Ala., Mr. Bates was a resident of Ocean Springs for four years. He was a retired saw mill worker. Mr. Bates is survived by his wife, Mrs. Sarah Mitchell Bates; three sons, Rubin Burnham of Biloxi, Brooks Burnham of Ocean Springs and Willie J. Burnham of Gulfport; three daughters, Mrs. John Springle of Ocean Springs, Mrs. Mary Lou Bates of Biloxi and Will Bates of Laurel; three sisters, Mrs. Ruby Allen, Braden, Mrs. Pauline Reynolds. Hattiesburg and Mrs. Ella Thompson, Childersburg, Ala.; and 25 grandchildren. The funeral will be held 2 p. m. Thursday from First Assembly of God Church in Ocean Springs. Interment will be in Serenity Gardens, North Biloxi. Friends may call at the J. Ben O'Keefe Memorial Chapel in Ocean Springs after 6 p.m. Wednesday. The body will be taken from the chapel to the church at 1:30 p.m Thursday."
