Lilibea Washington, 85, of Charlottesville, Virginia, was called home to the Lord on Monday, August 11, 2008.

Lilibea was born on July 4, 1923, in Albemarle County, Virginia to Robert T. Brooks and Mary Buchanan Brooks of Stony Point, Virginia. Lilibea was preceded in death by her son, William F. Washington; grandson, Charles E. Washington, three sisters, Alberta Taylor and Roseanna Ringwater of Brooklyn, New York, and Mary E. Bowman of Charlottesville, Virginia; four brothers, Robert T. Brooks, William L. Brooks , Walter M. Brooks of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and James Brooks of Brooklyn, New York.

Lilibea was educated at Albemarle Training School and retired from The Cedars Nursing Home after 32 years of service as a CNA. She was a devoted member of Ebenezer Baptist Church on Sixth Street and served many years as a member of the Pastor Aide and Helping Hands Club.

Lilibea was married to William T. Washington, and survived by a devoted daughter, Nancy L. Key of Charlottesville, Virginia. She leaves to her loving memory three granddaughters, Rachelle Davis, Tammy Washington and Avis Key of Charlottesville, Virginia; seven grandsons, William F. Washington Jr., Floyd W. Key III and his wife, Paula, of Williamsburg, Virginia, Charles Washington (deceased), Steven T. Key and his wife, Sarah, of Glenn Burnie, Maryland, Jeffrey Washington, Bryan L. Key and his wife, Danielle, of Woodbridge, Virginia, and Michael D. Key, all of Charlottesville, Virginia; 16 great-grandchildren, a devoted nephew, Albert Kelly of Brooklyn, New York, devoted and cherished friends, Celestine Harbert, Minnie Williams, Phyllis Jones all of Charlottesville, Virginia and Lucille Gault of Fork Union, Virginia.

The family would like to thank caregivers, Connie Allen, Sheri Charles and Sylvia Harlow, Jim Snow of Hospice of Piedmont and Tassco.

Lilibea was a very devoted mother, grandmother, and friend to many. She enjoyed gardening, working with her flowers, cooking for family and spending time with her friends. She was the light of our life and she will be greatly missed by us all.

A memorial service will be held 1 p.m. Friday, August 15, 2008, at Ebenezer Baptist Church, 113 6th Street NW, Charlottesville, Virginia, with the Reverend Bates officiating. Inturnment will be held at Oakwood Cemetery 9:30 a.m. Monday, August 18, 2008.
