RAPID CITY - Beverly J. Behrens-Miller of Rapid City, S. D. died May 30, 2008 after a valiant 14-year struggle with cancer. Beverly was born November 6, 1935 to Alfred Carl, Sr. and Emma E. (Julius) Behrens in Rapid City, South Dakota. It was her father's 41st birthday. She grew up in Rapid City and graduated in 1954 from Central High School. On July 2, 1954 she married "P". They had 3 sons and 1 daughter. She married "M" on June 30, 1964. They had 2 daughters. In June 1970 they moved to Black Hawk, S. D. and resided there until 1984 when they moved back to Rapid City. Beverly had a passion for serving her community and for education. While living in Black Hawk, she was involved with the Piedmont Valley Association, Black Hawk Volunteer Fire Department, Black Hawk Volunteer Auxiliary, the local PTA and was elected 2nd Vice President and 4th Vice President on the State PTA Board. She also participated in the Black Hawk School Parents Club. Committed to providing better educational facilities for the children of Black Hawk, she organized the committee for a new school and worked on 2 school bond elections. Elected to the Rapid City Board of Education, Beverly served three consecutive terms in 1979, 1983, and 1986. While on the Board of Education she served as both Vice President and President. During that time she also served on Western Dakota Vocational Technical School and Special Education Cooperative Boards. As a member of the Westminster Presbyterian Church of Rapid City, she served on the Evangelism, Stewardship, Christian Education Committee and the Board of Deacons. She also served for six years as the recording secretary for the Presbytery of South Dakota. Beverly is survived by her husband; 6 children; eleven grandchildren; three great grandchildren, and her sister.

Her parents, Alfred Sr. and Emma, her brother, Alfred Behrens, Jr. and her son Peter O. Mitchell, preceded her in death.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, June 4, 2008 at Westminster Presbyterian Church with Rev. Bob Jacobs and Rev. Ken Craag officiating. Interment will follow at Mountain View Cemetery, Rapid City. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Tuesday, June 3, 2008 at Behrens-Wilson Funeral Home. A memorial has been established for the Christian Education Department of Westminster Presbyterian Church.
