According to Prout Genealogy by Pope, Isaac was the son of Thomas and grandson of Isaac (Find A Grave Memorial# 31048140). His first marriage was to Mary Jane Goodell on June 8, 1826. His second marriage was to Mary Ann Newton.
Isaac was contracted to a shoemaker when he was 12 and his father died, but was able to buy his freedom by age 19. Over time he became the head of a shoe shop in very small quarters in North Spencer, and then expanded it to a well-equipped five story enterprise. He and three sons became partners of Isaac Prouty & Co, until Isaac and one of his sons died of pneumonia within a few days of each other in 1872.
