Rev. Kesting attended Northwestern College in Watertown, WI entered the Seminary in Mequon, WI and was ordained a Lutheran Minister on October 11, 1936 at First Lutheran Church in Manitowoc.

Rev. Kesting served as assistant pastor there for one year. He married the former Alice F. Schiffleger on May 7, 1938 at Manitowoc. Rev. Kesting served as pastor at First Lutheran Church in Minnesota City, MN. He later organized and under his direction, built St. Luke's Lutheran Church in Pickwick, MN. He then served as pastor at St. John's Lutheran Church in Vesta, MN and Immanuel Lutheran Church [1951-1966] in Gibbon, MN.

[Pastor Kesting played an instrumental role in organizing the building of the new Immanuel Lutheran Church in Gibbon, which was dedicated in 1959.]

Rev. Kesting accepted the call to become pastor of St. Peter's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Mishicot, and Rockwood Lutheran Church in Rockwood, WI, in November 1966, and served as pastor of these congregations until his retirement in March, 1985. He took great pride in assisting with the major addition built at St. Peter's and the renovation of Rockwood Lutheran Church.

After his retirement he served for one year as visiting pastor for First Lutheran Church in Green Bay, WI.
