Born in Simsboro, Louisiana to William Parker Gray and his wife Esther "Easter" Jane Robertson. The Grays would settle in the western Webster parish community of Gum Springs.

John Tillman Gray married Anna Mae Stevens [Wheless] and they resided in Webster Parish.

John T. Gray, aged forty years, died, June 15, 1926 at Dorcheat Bayou. Mr. Gray was born in Simsborough, January 22, 1886. His parents were W.P. and Esther June Robertson. He was married to Miss Anna May Stevens of Minden, La., February 3, 191[3]. To this union was born five children, four surviving the deceased. He is also survived by his wife, father, four sisters and two brothers.

Mr. Gray was a farmer and prominently and well known in the community where he had resided all his life.

He was connected with the M.E. Church South, since 1917. Funeral services were conducted from the family residence and interment made in the Richardson Cemetery, Doyline, La. Mr. Gray's death occurred from drowning and was an extremely distressing nature. In an attempt to save the life of his son he met his death, the child was saved by another member of the family.
