The son of Isaac & Mary A. (Wells) Jones, in 1860 he was a railroader living Harrisburg, Dauphin County, Pennsylvania. He stood 5' 7" tall and had dark hair and brown eyes. He married Anna Shoop or Shupp January 21, 1862, and fathered the children you see linked below.
A Civil War veteran, he served two terms of service:
1. Enlisted at the stated age of twenty-two in Harrisburg May 2, 1861, mustered into federal service that day as a private with Co. F, 25th Pennsylvania Infantry, and honorably discharged with his company July 20, 1861.
2. Enlisted at the stated age of in Harrisburg August 19, 1864, mustered into federal service there August 25 as a private with Co. E, 201st Pennsylvania Infantry, and thereafter promoted to corporal, date unknown, and to sergeant effective November 11, 1864. He was put in charge of prisoners and the guard house and also served several months as company clerk. On March 28, 1865, he received a five-day furlough to return home to visit his wife, who was "not expected to live" although she apparently did. He honorably discharged with his company June 21, 1865.
In 1917, he was living in Harrisburg where he died from a "cerebral hemorrhage (3 in past 1 1/2 years)" with "heart block & infirmities of age" contributing factors.
