He married Louisa Christman on July 10, 1860. He enlisted in the 9th Minnesota Infantry on August 15, 1862, and served through the war. He lived for 10 years in Rochester, Minnesota, and farmed there until May 1869, when he relocated to Cairo township in Renville county. He and his wife had four children: William H., Zoella, Zelro D., and Delmer.
