Martha Ellen Jones, daughter of Olivar and Hannah Jones was born near Everton, Missouri, March 21, 1885. She departed this life January 17, 1941 at Iola, Kansas. She was converted and united with the first Methodist Church of Iola, Kansas early in life. She was not a woman who made great demonstration of her faith but proved her life, her faith in Christ. She was an ideal companion, a lovely mother, and an excellent neighbor. She was always interested in helping those who needed her services. She was a member of the Rebekah Lodge. She had passed through all the chairs and was a past Noble Grand.

She leave to mourn her loss her husband, her mother, Mrs. Hannah Jones; two daughters, Mrs. Harley Wynn (Naomi), and Mrs. Marion K. Horner (Juanita), six grand children, four brothers, and many relatives and friends.

The out-town-relatives who were attended the funeral services for Mrs. Walter Smith included the following: Mrs. Thomas Sims, Everton, MO: Mr. and Mrs. Joe Smith and their sons Loyd and Willie, and their granddaughter Marietta, and Mrs. Albert Oshel, Chanute; and Mr. and Mrs. Leslie O. Jones of Galena.

The following is the text used by the minister in preaching her funeral service.

Scripture: A virtuous woman who can find? For her price is far above rubies. The heart of her husband trusteth in her, and he shall have no lack of gain. She doeth him good and not evil all the days of her life. She spreadeth out her hand to the poor; yea, she reacheth forth her hands to the needy. Strength and dignity are her clothing; and she laugheth at the time to come. She openeth her mouth with wisdom; and the law of kindness is on her tongue. She looketh well to the ways of her household, and eateth not the bread of idleness. Her children rise up and call her blessed. Her husband also, and he praiseth her saying: Many daughters have done virtuously, but thou excellest them all. Favour is deceitful and beauty is vain, but the woman who feareth the Lord, she shall be praised. Give her the fruits of her hands, and let her works praise her in the gates. (Proverbs 21:10-12, 20, 25-31)
