Metta Victoria Fuller Victor was a prominent writer of "dime novels" in the 1800's. At 13 years old, Fuller had her first work published in a local newspaper. Her first book Last Days of Tul, A Romance of the Lost Cities of Yucatan was published in 1847, when she was 15. Fuller wrote three dime novels in 1860: Alice Wilde, The Raftsman's Daughter, and The Backwoods Bride. Her most popular dime novel was Maum Guinea, and Her Plantation. Children, published in 1862. Victoria is credited with writing the first US detective novel in 1866 called The Dead Letter under the pseudonym Seeley Regester. Anonymously and under other pseudonyms, Victoria wrote over 100 dime novels, short stories, poetry, cookbooks, fiction, mysteries, and romances. Many of her works are still available for purchase today.

Her sister was Frances Aureate Fuller Victor was also a notable author of the time.
