A private memorial service will be conducted in Henderson, Nev. on Feb 28, 2009, followed by internment with his wife's ashes in the columbarium at Arlington National Cemetery.
Alice Wright Henry, 79, died Oct 5, 1996 of natural causes at the Star Valley Hospital in Afton.
Memorial services were held Oct 8, 1996 at Schwab Mortuary in Afton, followed by an open house at the family home. Interment Arlington National Cemetery.
Alice was born Nov 10, 1916 in Springer NM to Douglas G and Myrtle B. Wright. The family moved to Raton NM where Alice graduated from Raton High School. She then attended the University of Denver, and began a civil service career with the Army Chief of Finance Office in Washington, D.C. and Chicago, IL. After the war she worked for the Department of Agriculture.
She married LTCOL Robert G. "Gus" Henry USAF (Ret) on May 31, 1947 in Washington D.C. Alice left the civil service to raise her family and followed her husband's career with General Electric to Syracuse, NY, Daytona Beach, FL and Bethesda MD. After her children were grown, Alice returned to the federal work force and retired from the Research Grants Division of the National Institutes of Health in 1979.
Gus and Alice had fallen in love with Star Valley during visits to their son-in-law's family ranch on Crow Creek in 1977 and 1978, and built their retirement home at Star Valley Ranch in the summer of 1979. During the winter months they traveled extensively to such far away places as New Zealand, Australia, the Far East and St. Thomas USVI. Alice was also an avid bridge player.
Alice is survived by her husband Gus, Star Valley Ranch, children Robert G. Jr., Pasadena CA; CAPT Douglas G., Ridgecrest, CA; and Mary H. Stewart, Las Vegas; seven grandchildren and a brother James Wright, Baton, NM.
She was preceded in death by her brothers Douglas and John and sister Helen.
A memorial fund in her name has been established at the Star Valley Hospital Nursing Home.
