On Sep 9, 1943, the 100th Infantry Battalion (IB) (Separate) an oversized infantry battalion (A-F Companies) was attached to the 133rd Infantry Regiment, 34th "Red Bull" Infantry Division (ID). Subsequently, the 442nd Infantry Regiment (IR) arrived in the European/Mediterranean Theater of Operation (E/MTO) & on Jun 10, 1944 attached to the 34th ID. On Aug 10, 1944, the 100th IB (Sep) was reorganized, redesigned as the 100th IB (A-D Companies) & attached to the 442nd IR. In essence the 100th became the 442nd's 1st Battalion; however, retained its' numeral designation due to its' outstanding combat record. 100th/442nd was later attached to the 36th "Texas", & 92nd "Buffalo Soldier" IDs.
