Note: As a researcher of the Falwell/Fallwell family for the past 50 years, I have found the surname of this family spelled in many different ways. The most common is FALWELL and FALLWELL. These seem to be the main spelling from our ancestors that came from Virginia that spell their surname with three L's (FALWELL). My 2nd Great Grandfather Elisha and his wife, Elizabeth, most likely spelled their name FALWELL, however. I has seen it both ways on different documents. Even Elizabeth's original gravestone spelled her name FALLWELL. Elisha's gravestone spelled his name FALWELL! Elisha had three boys that carried on his name and two of the three spelled their last name FALLWELL. So, for my records, this is what I have concluded: Their son, Moses, that remained in Tennessee used the name FALWELL; their son, John, that moved to Weimer, Texas, also used the name FALWELL, their other son, William, that moved to Rusk and Panola Counties in Texas, spelled his surname FALLWELL. William was my great grandfather. Today, all of William's descendants are named FALLWELL. William's descendants are spread all over West Texas and beyond to Oklahoma, California, Oregon, Washington, and many other states. In conclusion, all those beautiful FALWELL/FALLWELL cousins that still live in Virginia and whose ancestors spread to Missouri, Tennessee, and Texas, etc. all came from the same family no matter how they spelled their name.
