Henry was the son of David Ash and Eliza Whitcomb. He married Mary A Young in 1865. The were the parents of Eugene, Seth, Roy, and Mable Alice.

February 9, 1882 - Storm Lake Pilot - Died at his residence near Storm Lake, on Saturday, Feb. 4, 1882, Henry C Ash, in the 40th year of his age.

The deceased has been a resident of this County during the past seven years and resided so near Storm Lake that he appeared to our citizens as one of their own number. Only a few days ago he was in the Pilot sanctum apparently in robust health except a slight trouble with his eyes for which he was being treated. To all appearances he bid fair for long life and use fullness. Generous, kind, enterprising and a true man in all the relations of life, he was universally honored and respected.

But he has been taken away ere he had reached the age of forty years. In the early part of last week he was attacked with congestion of the brain. Everything that loving hands and medical skill could do for his relief was promptly done but to no avail. He gradually grew worse until Saturday when death came and released him front earth's sufferings.

Henry C. Ash was born in the town of Lisbon, State of New Hampshire, on the 28th day of April, 1842, and would have reached his 40th year in the coming April.

He was married in 1865 and removed with his family to Iowa in the year 1871. His first location was near Grinnell, thence to Sac County and thence to the farm near this city where he died. He held Masonic membership in the Lodge in his native town and was an ardent lover of the teaching and principles of the Ancient Order. Owing the fact that father and brothers were members of the home Lodge, he never demitted and affliated with the Lodge in this city. He was often a visitor and had the fullest confidence and respet of the fraternity.

At the age of 18 he made a profession of religion but from some cause never united with the church until 3 years ago. Since that period he has been a consistent and true Christian gentleman. While he was a Methodist by choice and association he was generous and tolerant to all who differed with him.

The funeral took place on Monday afternoon from the first Methodist Church. The attendance was extremely large and it was utterly impossible for the vast throng to get inside of the building. After the coffin had been placed near the pulpit the services began. Rev J.C.R. Leyton presiding Elder of the District and Rev W.F. Gleason, pastor of the church in this city occupied the desk and conducted the exercises.

At the conclusion the entire audience viewed the face of the loved and lamented dead. The memory of his good deeds will live long in the hearts of the people of Storm Lake and to his bereaved family and friends the truest and tenderest sympathy is extended.
