Herman A. Waldher, a retired mechanic and Pomeroy resident, died Tuesday at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center at Lewiston. He was 90.

He was born April 14, 1904, to Peter and Mary Pierre Waldher on the family homestead one mile south of Pomeroy. He attended grade school at Holy Rosary Catholic School at Pomeroy and continued his high school education at St. Boniface Catholic School at Uniontown. He married Eva C. Baden Nov. 3, 1927, at Pomeroy.

He worked at various Garfield County farms including the family homestead until the early 1940s, when he worked for Krouse's Machine Shop at Pomeroy. Later he joined his brother Francis in the Waldher Carpenter Shop. They built numerous Pomeroy homes and the Holy Rosary Elementary School.

In the 1950s he became the parts and maintenance man for Herres Farm and Home Supply Co., which ran the Case Farm Equipment dealership. He retired in 1970.
He enjoyed many different types of work and trades and assisted in building and plumbing work on many Garfield County homes.

He was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church and the Washington State Trappers Association. He was a past member of the Pleasant Grove Grange and the Knights of Columbus.

He and his wife traveled the United States while their son was in the Air Force. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and snowmobiling at their cabin at Stentz Springs in the Blue Mountains. The couple also enjoyed camping and boating at Chapman Lake near Spokane.

Survivors include his wife, a son, a brother, three sisters, four grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Two brothers and six sisters died previously.

Visitation will be from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Richardson-Brown Funeral Home at Pomeroy. A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. at Holy Rosary Church.

The funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Monday at Holy Rosary Church with the Rev. John P. Sand of that church officiating. Burial will be at Holy Rosary Catholic Cemetery.

The family suggests memorials be made to the American Cancer Association or the Holy Rosary Memorial Fund in care of Richardson-Brown Funeral Home.
