NSDAR dedicates insignia marker By Mae Bruce

The members of Colonel George Dashiell chapter, National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution, conducted a beautiful dedication ceremony of an NSDAR insignia marker on the grave of former member Emma Blount Franklin on Monday, June 16. (2008)

Franklin was born in North Zulch, and died in 2004 at the age of 96 years, nine months and 15 days. She was preceded in death by her husband George Franklin. During her years in Normangee, she was a member of the Harmony Baptist Church, the Woman's Auxiliary, Eastern Star and the Colonel George Dashiell Chapter, NSDAR. Chapter Regent Shirley Bland led the dedication ceremony graveside in Willowhole Cemetery. Members participated with a tribute to Franklin, a prayer, the Pledge of Allegiance to the U.S. flag and the American's Creed, followed by the unveiling of the marker. In addition to Bland, members participating included Vice Regent Peggy Roberts, Secretary Mae Bruce, Treasurer Margaret Patterson, Registrar Neva Jo Brooks and Chaplain Faye Blount Andrews. Andrews is a surviving sister of Emma Blount Franklin.
