The daughter of Johann G. "John" Schlinker and Theresa Ortleb, Mae was baptized at St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Brussels, Calhoun County, Illinois. She was raised on the family farm operated by her father.

Mae married Oscar Meseke on 17 Apr 1936 at St. Matthew Lutheran Church. Shortly after their marriage, Mae and Oscar moved to St. Louis (city), Missouri where they operated a small grocery store on Park Avenue near Grand.

After a little more than 10 years in the city, the Mesekes moved to Riverview in north St. Louis County where they built a dwelling at 10102 Dorothy Avenue. It had living quarters in the back and a grocery store across the front. They owned and operated their own Mom-and-Pop-style grocery store there for another 10 years.

Mae and Oscar left the grocery business about 1957 and moved to nearby Jennings, Missouri. Oscar did custodial work at display houses for new subdivisions being built in north St. Louis County.

Mae and Oscar celebrated their silver wedding anniversary in 1961 with a big dinner and dance attended by their many friends and relatives.

In January of 1965, Mae was diagnosed with cancer. As her health quickly declined, Oscar's sisters and sister-in-laws took turns staying with her for a week at a time so that he could continue to work. Mae's sister, Louise, spent weekends helping with Mae's care until 12 Jul 1965 when she was hospitalized for the final time.

Despite being a life-long non-smoker, Mae died at Normandy Osteopathic Hospital on 13 Jul 1965 of lung cancer that brought on a cardio-vascular collapse. At the time of her death, she was 52 years, 5 months and 25 days old.

She was survived by her husband, Oscar; her father, John of St. Louis, Missouri; 1 brother, Harold Schlinker of Brussels, Illinois; 1 sister, Louise Willenburg of Golden Eagle, Illinois; and many nieces and nephews.

Mae was preceded in death by her mother, Theresa, and 1 brother, Raymond.

Visitation was held after 4 p.m. on 14 Jul 1965 at Callahan Funeral Home in Brussels. Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. on the afternoon of 16 Jul 1965 at St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Brussels.

Mae's husband, Oscar, passed away in 1978 and was buried next to her.
