The son of Louis Henry Meseke and Mathilda Wilhelmina "Tillie" Willenburg, Oscar was baptized on 15 May 1910 at St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Brussels, Calhoun County, Illinois. His sponsors were Louis Willenburg and Fritz Keehner.

Oscar married Mae Schlinker on 17 Apr 1936 at St. Matthew Lutheran Church. Shortly after their marriage, Oscar and Mae moved to St. Louis (city), Missouri where they operated a small grocery store on Park Avenue near Grand.

After a little more than 10 years in the city, the Mesekes moved to Riverview in north St. Louis County where they built a dwelling at 10102 Dorothy Avenue. It had living quarters in the back and a grocery store across the front. They owned and operated their own Mom-and-Pop-style grocery store there for another 10 years.

Oscar and Mae left the grocery business about 1957 and moved to nearby Jennings, Missouri. Oscar did custodial work at display houses for new subdivisions being built in north St. Louis County.

Oscar and Mae celebrated their silver wedding anniversary in 1961 with a big dinner and dance attended by their many friends and relatives.

In January of 1965, Mae was diagnosed with cancer. Her health declined quickly and she died in July of that year at the age of 52.

After Mae passed away, Oscar was married to a divorcée, Mrs. Anna Belle Barnard Hinman Quinn, for a short time. When that marriage ended, he was married Mrs. Mamie Ida Emma (nee Nolle) Kinder on 09 May 1970 in St. Louis County. They enjoyed 8 1/2 happy years together before he died in late 1978.

A long-time diabetic, Oscar died of bone cancer at Americana Health Care Center. At the time of his death, he was 68 years, 7 months and 26 days old.

He was survived by his wife, Mamie; 3 sisters, Bertha Arnold of Roxana, Illinois, Oleta Freand of Carrollton, Illinois, and (Living) of Golden Eagle; 2 brothers, Louis and George, both of St. Louis; 1 step-son, Ellis Kinder; 1 step-daughter, Dolores Clevenger; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents and first wife, Oscar was preceded in death by 2 brothers, Bud and Henry Meseke. Bud was killed in action during World War II.

Visitation was held after 3 p.m. on 01 Dec 1978 at Hanks Funeral Home in Brussels. Funeral services were conducted at 1:30 p.m. the following afternoon at St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Brussels. Oscar was buried next to his first wife, Mae.

The family requested that memorials, if desired, be made to the American Cancer Society or to the Calhoun Ambulance Fund.
