The son of Louis Henry Meseke and Mathilda Wilhelmina "Tillie" Willenburg, George was baptized "George Wilhelm Meseke" on 16 April 1905 at St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Brussels, Calhoun County, Illinois. His sponsors were Dena Willenburg and Wilhelm (illegible).

George married Olinda Marie "Lin" Albers on 25 Jul 1935 at the home of Otto and Dena (nee Willenburg) Brands in Overland, St. Louis County, Missouri. The Mesekes were the parents of 2 children.

George worked for a time building cars for Moon Motors. He also held a wide variety of jobs—roofer, carpenter, miner, farmer—before becoming a barber in a corner of a grocery store in Ferguson, Missouri, owned and operated by him and his brother, Louie. The store was located on the northeast corner of Chambers Road and Ames Place. George later sold his share of the business to Louie, and opened his own barber shop at 2060 Chambers in north St. Louis County.

George's mother-in-law, Alvina Albers, lived with the family for many years until her death. The Mesekes were members of Salem Lutheran Church in Black Jack, Missouri. They later attended Our Master Lutheran Church until it closed, and eventually became members of Friedens Chapel in north St. Louis County.

George retired from his work as a barber at the age of 64.

His hobbies included playing cards with friends and family members. Well known for his sense of humor and story-telling abilities, he enjoyed pitching horseshoes and dining out at various restaurants. He liked to follow Cardinal baseball games on the radio and television.

His wife, Lin, passed away in 1998.

George continued to live in the home he built adjacent to his barber shop on Chambers Road until very late in life. Declining health eventually forced him to enter a nursing home in Jerseyville, Illinois. He celebrated his 100th birthday there in December of 2004.

George died at the nursing home in 2006 at the age of 101 years, 5 months and 2 days.

He was survived by 1 daughter, Shirley Ishmael and her husband, Clyde Ishmael; 1 son, Dave Meseke; 2 granddaughters and their husbands; 2 great-granddaughters; 1 sister, Freda Robeen; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his wife, George was preceded in death by his parents; 4 brothers, Henry, Louie and Oscar Meseke, and Bud Meseke, who was killed in action during World War II; 2 sisters, Bertha Arnold and Oleta Freand; and a daughter-in-law, Mary Meseke.

Visitation was held for an hour before 2 p.m. funeral services at Stygar Florissant Chapel in St. Louis County, Missouri on 25 May 2006. George was buried next to his wife, Lin, in the church cemetery.
