The Leigh family were early settlers in the Bloomfield community. Coming to Beemer, NE from Illinois, then Bloomfield about the turn of the century. Lew Leigh and his wife worked at the Santee Schools for many years. His sisters, Caroline Leigh Gray and Lena Leigh Armstrong, operated the Bluebird Café in downtown Bloomfield for many years. Bertha Leigh Settell was the wife of D.R. Settell, a Bloomfield dentist. Inez Leigh Weigand was a housemother at Masonic Home for Children in Fremont for some years. Lena Armstrong's daughter, Inez Armstrong, taught in the local school system before going into nurses training. She was an outstanding individual in her profession. She wrote two books on Pediatric Nursing. was a Lt. Commander in the Navy, and taught in the University of Arizona until her retirement. She died in 1989.
