In 1906 his sister Mrs G.W. Anderson wrote to Chief of Police Jim Hagan requesting information on where he could be located as his father had died and he was a co-heir to his estate with his sister and his presents was needed to clear matters up.
There was also a letter written to Golovin addressed to "Chief of Police Golovin Bay " The letter was brought to Fairbanks where it is reported that his father Capt. Sam McPhail had left a estate valued at $5000,000.00.
He had been managing the 8 Below Road House in Ester for about a year when the letter was printed in the paper before he even knew about it.
Sometime before 1920 he married Anna C Holmgren. She was born in Sweden about 1863 immigrating about 1898. She was the cook at the 8 Below Road House and must have been widowed because she was known as Mrs Holmgren
John was a prospector in the early years coming from Dawson to all over last later he had placer mines in Fairbanks.
So who is to say if his inheritance was really $250,000.00?
