Robert Norwood Gidley Sr., 78, of Albright, Lenox Community, died Sunday, Nov. 19, 2000, in his home. He was born Feb. 15, 1922, in Morgantown, son of the late Richard Melvin and Maud L. Cramer Gidley. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving in the South Pacific and was in the first wave of troops to enter Japan after their surrender. He was a member of the Terra Alta VFW Post 587, and a member of the International Union of Operating Engineers, Local 132. He is survived by his wife, Nettie L. Dixon Gidley; a daughter and spouse, Aleta and Roy Albright, of Tunnelton; three sons and two spouses, Robert N. Jr. and Linda Gidley, of Kingwood, Jesse D. and Erma Gidley, of Leland, N.C., and Donald M. Gidley, of Charles Town; a brother and spouse, Melvin McKinley and Marjorie Gidley, of Morgantown; a sister, Lucille Sisler, of Kingwood; eight grandchildren, Robert N. III and Jody Gidley, Dia Kratti, Dustin Gidley, J.D. and Angela Gidley, Tim Albright, Wendy Albr ight, Jason Albright and Amy Gidley; and two great-grandchildren, Gregga Gidley and Robert N. Gidley IV. He was preceded in death by a daughter; a grandson, Greg Gidley; two sisters; and a brother. Burial will be in the Lenox Memorial Lutheran Cemetery.
